Orginally aired at 9.00pm on the 5th of July 2004, this fascinating BBC4 documentary concerns 1960's art and focuses on a maverick group of artists who rejected the mainstream and forged new and experimental approaches to art.
Beginning with the creation of the Indica Gallery and Bookshop and featuring interviews with avante garde artists such as Mark Boyle, Gustov Metska, John Latham, Yoko Ono and Otto Muhl, this documentary takes us through bizzare pieces of performance art, the creation of IT magazine, and the now famous 14 Hour Technicolour Dream - probably the biggest "Tune In, Turn On & Drop Out" event of the 1960's. Along the way we are treated to interviews with Swinging London luminaries, such as Miles, John Dunbar, Paul McCartney and Marianne Faithfull, who tell the story form their perspective.
The soundtrack features the psychedelic sounds of The Who, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Soft Machine and - the main reason this DVD came to be - The Pink Floyd. The Floyd can also be seen prerforming Interstellar Overdrive at the UFO club (more commonly know amongst collectors as the Granada TV footage), in what has to be the best quality yet... bar none!
Having been taken from a digital source, this DVD is of outstanding quality and presented in widescreen format.
