Source 1 notes:
Please excuse the screaming, I couldn’t help my self! Filmed from block 115, Row A, Seat 10. Very near the stage, on level with Rog, and on an angle to his left hand side. Amazing seats to film from. Also, sorry for the incomplete tracks, but some is better than none right? Hope you enjoy watching as much as I did, if anyone wants to use portions of my footage, feel free to contact me, and mention the source and taper in your credits.
Enjoy!

Right, where do I begin?! I ordered tickets to see Roger Waters last year, I brought them of a ticket tout on eBay for just £300, to cut a long story short, I waited over a year, believed his emails stating that tickets can be sent out up to a week before the concert, and not to worry, I’d get them within plenty of time. It was 4 days to the concert, and I was getting really worried. I received email 3 days before the concert saying the ticket company (see tickets) had made a mistake, his pregnant wife was having problems, that he had recently moved house and basically, I was not going to be getting my tickets. I don't think I would have got a refund, but I told him my sister was a Police Officer, and the money was back in my account the same day. Unfortunately, there was no time to buy other tickets and so the 21st of May went by and I was absolutely devastated, my hero, Roger, was in town but I couldn’t see him. I sat at home in a dark room :(
I knew Rog was coming back to Manchester on the 28th so I ran about like a mad man trying to find some good seats, eventually I came across some really good ones on viagogo (Block 115 row A) for a little under £300, so I brought them, and well, the rest is history!
I was counting the days till the 28th getting more and more excited each day! I did a lot of research into recording, and came to the conclusion that the best pocket sized digital camera for recording a concert, was either the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7/TZ8 or TZ18/TZ20. I went for the TZ20 after seeing the videos it produced, I was blown away. I watched someone else’s footage on YouTube, and the sound was superb and the zoom lens got all the action close up. This was the camera for me, and I'm really glad I brought it, because I think my footage turned out great.
The camera has a MOS sensor, 16x optical zoom with Optical Stabilisation, true stereo sound recording and full 1080 HD recording. And its small enough to fit in your pocket, perfect!
As me and my friend where going, I borrowed another camera for him to use, just in case one of the cameras got confiscated, then at least we might still have one to record with! The camera was a Canon powershot with 14x optical zoom 720p recording with stereo sound recording. He got some great pics with it, but the videos where quite bad, and not worthy to share here, the sound clipped quite badly and the video was highly compressed.
The day of the concert.
I woke up on the 28th buzzing with anticipation and extreme excitement of seeing my hero live, I really was fucking excited to put it bluntly! I put my batteries on charge, checked my memory cards and got everything ready for later on, then went to work. My god I barley did anything at work that day, I couldn’t concentrate! I was finishing at 2pm, and it couldn’t come quick enough.
I left the house at 6:30 to make sure I had plenty of time to get to the arena, I only live 10 minutes away, but as anyone who lives in Manchester, and travels to town will tell you, the traffic can be murder, especially around this time. But alas, no, the traffic was suspiciously quite! Got into town at about 6:45 and had a wonder round for a bit, finally, at about half 7, we made our way up the steps of the south entrance of the M.E.N arena. Now, at this point, I was shitting my self, I had two cameras strapped to my body, and I had just heard the door man ask the woman in front of me to "Open your bad please, love" I though oh shit, I’m not going to get through here, but it was absolutely fine, the guy just checked my ticket and we where in! No search or anything. I heaved a massive sigh of relief, but then another feeling took over, wild excitement! In just an hour’s time, Roger waters would be walking out on stage, I'm still getting Goosebumps as I type!
As I looked around, the first think I noticed was the merchandise stores! So I brought the tour program, the trust us flag and 2 posters, which set me back £60, but worth every penny.
Just one more stop at the drinks stand, where I nearly had a pint of carling poured over me, by a very drunk man who didn't seem to know which way was up, and it was time to go in! It was very easy to get lost in the M.E.N, and 3 times we walked past the door to our section, Block 115. But we eventually made it, now for the dreaded, very steep steps down to the bottom of the arena, let me tell you, they are not for the faint hearted!
Once safely sat in our (very uncomfortable, I might add) seats, I got my gear set up and checked. Where we where sat, was right next to where the security and staff stand, and all I could think was, there goes my chance of filming anything, but I needn’t have worried, they didn't bother me once, the only time they came over was when the lady sat behind me took a picture with the flash on.
I checked the time; it was 20 past 8, 10 more minutes to go!
Finally, the PA sounded, and the pre recorded message about cameras blared through the sound system, which was right above my head, my god was it loud! This was it, any moment now and the show was going to start. I whipped my camera out and hit record as two men dressed in military styled uniform came marching onto the stage holding a white puppet, the show had started. I can't tell you how excited I was at this point, Roger waters was going to walk out in literally seconds, I was finally going to meet my hero, live and in the flesh.
Red fireworks across from the stage and the famous opening to in the flesh started, then, Rog appears to wild, and I mean WILD screams and applause, it was magical, utterly amazing to see him walk down onto the stage, the moment I have been dreaming about for years, to see Roger Waters live was finally here and it was magnificent, truly magnificent. He gets his trench coat on and begins to sing, words cant describe just how I was feeling, just how good he was. The whole show was simply staggering, the lights, the wall projections, the puppets and most importantly the music, it was flawless. Rog's banter with the crowd, wow, one guy shouted "I LOVE YOU ROGER" and he replied, "I love you too!, there's a man down there who loves me!".
It was the greatest show on earth and the best 2 hours of my life. I’ll never forget that night and I’ll carry the memories with me forever. It was better then I ever imagined, Rog is a true legend.
I truly, truly hope I get to see him perform live again, once just isn't enough. Please Rog; come back to the UK next year!
Anyway, hope I've not bored you all to death, I just wanted to share with you all how much this concert meant to me, and how great it was to finally see my hero live.
Peace out,
Ant.
