OK, so for this recording, I got a good
news, bad news, good news kind of thing going on.
The good news is I got the show recorded...kind of. The bad news is that I made
a rookie mistake and did not use my hold (lock) switch on my recorder. Somehow (I'm
guessing when I stood up to let someone go by) I hit stop or pause and missed
the last few songs of the first set. Believe me, this was very frustrating to
me. The recording gets cut during Perfect Sense Part 1 & 2 and I'm also missing
Leaving Beirut & Sheep.
The other bit of good news is that thanks to kdj and his brilliant bit of
recording, I was able to patch the missing songs in making this the only
complete recording of that night. I learned my lesson and not only used the hold
switch during set 2 but will ALWAYS use it from now on.
The mics used are binaurals so you'll probably have a better experience
listening to this show cranked up loud and using headphones. I tried to minimize
my head movement but didn't always succeed.
This was my first time in Vancouver and I had a great time. Quite a nice city
and reminds me a bit of my old hometown, Montreal. The weather was nice and the
light rain at the end of the show was not unwelcome. The origins of the title
are just a compendium of some of the things that happened to me during my trip
and came to me at 3 o clock in the morning the night of the show during a fire
alarm in my hotel! On the drive to Vancouver, just as I was entering the city, a
woman was walking along the side of the highway with her llama. It was a strange
sight indeed! Finally, the very drunken man one row down and a few seats over
from me promised over and over how he would not make a sound once the show began
but then started making and receiving cell phone calls from his drunken boss at
row 3!?! There's a special place in Hell for concert talkers.
All in all the show was fun and exactly as I expected. I hope you have as much
fun listening to this show as I had recording it.
