Anthem of the Ukrainian revolution
Ukrainian supergroup Boombox were part of the
struggle during the Maidan demonstrations in Kiev in 2013-14, and their iconic
song ????? (Rain) which remembers the 106 people killed, became a rallying call
for freedom.
They are now banned from performing in Russia, where
they have a huge following, because of their pro-freedom stance.
Often described as a funky-groove band, Boombox was
founded in Kiev in 2004 by vocalist Andrey Khlyvniuk, guitarist Andrey ôFlyö
Samoylo and DJ Valentin ôValikö Matijuk. Blending elements of hip-hop, rock,
funk, jazz and reggae, Boombox mainly perform in Ukrainian, with a couple of
tracks in Russian and English.
David Gilmour is guitarist, vocalist and writer with Pink Floyd, but is also
renowned for his solo work: his highly acclaimed 2006 platinum album On An
Island was Number 1 in the UK and made the Top Ten in many countries. In
September 2014, Pink Floyd released The Endless River and David confirmed that
it would be the band's final album: it topped the charts in over 20 countries.
His fourth solo album Rattle That Lock was released worldwide on 18 September
2015, and is currently ranking Number 1 in the album charts in eleven countries.
For I'm with the Banned, a brief pit-stop on his first live tour in Europe in
nine years, he will perform tracks including Rattle That Lock, In Any Tongue and
Wish You Were Here with Boombox.
