Second Roger Waters show this week. When tickets put
on sale bought a pair and helped get a pair for friends Melanie and Bob from
Desert Trip who came up from San Diego. My second ticket was left wanting,
friends either out of town or they wanted to watch Warriors game. My son didn't
want to go either. Sold it Stubhub the day before. I drove up, met Melanie and
Bob at their hotel a few hours early. They got to see the gear and how I prepare
to get past security. We then made plans to meet at a restaurant next to the
Arena. I had to buy new batteries on the way since I
discovered the recorder was on when I got there and
didn't know how long it had been running. Bought 2 at A Rite Aid for $6. That
is robbery but I had no choice. We ate an early
dinner and finished up as the place got crowded. I navigated security which was
walk through metal detectors and wands and made my way in. I meet the guy who
bought the seat and he is a nice guy who had never
seen Roger. To my right are two women, one who is obviously
fighting a bad cold. They lasted about 45 minutes and left.
The music starts and it is like another ride on the amazing roller coaster. Same
set but seeing and hearing different things. My favorite songs of the set were
One of These Days and Welcome to the Machine and I enjoyed Picture That most
among the new songs. My neighbor is enjoying it and a few times tries to talk to
me. I did have a whistler who was luckily behind me.
After the set I explained to my neighbor I was
recording and gave him cds of Oakland. The beginning of the second set set
starts with Dogs and Pigs (Three Different Ones)
which sets the crowd off. My neighbor doesn't seem
to like Pigs and you can hear him on the recording say "He's our
President" twice. He ended up leaving during Brain Damage
so at this point I have lots of room. As with
Oakland the crowd also goes nuts during Brain Damage/Eclipse.
After the band intros the show ends with stunning versions
of Vera, Bring the Boys Back Home and Comfortably Numb. I really enjoyed how
Holly and Jess have grown into their role as Roger's
back up singers and you can see the emotion in their performance. Looking
forward to seeing the shows later on in the tour and can say I was tempted by
Las Vegas coming up. Enjoy this, the sound is comparable to Oakland.
