This is my recording of The Wall Tour 2010 in St. Louis,
MO. You won't find many ROIO recordings made from an iPhone! I had just recently
acquired the phone, and I made the recording for my own archives, just to see if
I could record a whole show this way. Then I became aware 2 months after the
show that this was a "missing tour date", that is, no other taper has made a
recording of this show available. So although the quality is not the best (see
below), I felt I should make it available to the fan community. At least it will
suffice until a better version surfaces.
In order to differentiate this recording from others from this date which may
appear later, I've titled mine "So It Begins". As heard on my recording, I
muttered this when the first notes of In the Flesh began, as my party was late
arriving and at that moment was still walking on the concourse into the
auditorium. I wasn't too unhappy though, as we had just been approached by a man
who was handing out free ticket upgrades! We had been on the escalator going to
the upper balcony but ended up in section 103. It ended up being a good location
to record from as you can discern some of the panning effects across the arena.
This show also had some interesting features and sound samples not heard in
other shows on this tour, most notably at the end of the second In the Flesh,
when Roger acts out shooting the crowd with a prop machine gun.
As for the quality.. it's listenable but not great, as there are several
detracting factors. First and most importantly, as stated above it was recorded
on my iPhone4 with the internal mic. And it was saved by the phone to m4a format
(AAC), which is lossy. Also there is some annoying talking at times during the
quiet sections, and a little crowd sing-along during Comfortably Numb. Finally
as I mentioned, the first minute of In the Flesh was recorded from outside the
arena but we settle into our seats by the end of it. Anyway besides all that, as
a whole it's not a bad listen.
I hope all the fans enjoy this recording, until if and when a better version
from this tour date is made available!
