Here it is, show 2 of Daspy does Europe 2011.
See the blog file for the story of the trip. I am
separating it from the main info file for those that don't care.
During the day I have to play tourist. When in Dublin
there are two places to see. One is the Guinness Tour and the other is the
Jamesons tour. I'm joking but those were two places
on my agenda if possible. I was told I should take one of the bus tours and get
on and off as desired. I was at the stop and looked at the crowd and realized I
would rather be on my own so I walked across town to the Guinness Brewery.
Probably 30 minutes at a New Yorker's pace. Found it
following my nose without maps and enjoyed every second of it. Did my sampling
for breakfast. Afterwards I stopped for lunch at a
pub and the Guinness tap called me again. Ended up walking back and decided
against the Jamesons tour because I didn't want to screw up the real reason I
was in Dublin. Got my gear and walked to the O2. Went to the hotel bar next door
to meet Radiowaves before the show. I ordered coffee and chatted with the bar
tender who was a fan but had to work. I had a few cds with me and gave him a
copy. He didn't charge me for refills after that. A
farmer from Dublin asked me if he could sit down. We talked music and politics
for over an hour and I let him in on my secret. Gave
him the MSG DVD remaster that uses my audio and he was thrilled. He was waiting
for his brother and his wife who arrived and he immediatly tells them what I do.
His sister in law loves U2 and I had a CD of Justin Herman Plaza in 1987 in my
bag. I gave it to her and then her husband sits
down. He is a Dublin police officer decked out in Pink Floyd concert attire.
Radiowaves finally arrives. He was working on his upload and
lost track of time. We lost track of time and doors we open.
I got stopped and they checked my pack. I said I had water and clothes and they
wanted a water cap. No problem there. I get in and put the gear togehter and
find my spot. About 10 feet further back than the first night. A really nice
couple end up in front of me. Dermo and Jun also were not asw tall which
appealed to my taping senses. We talked awhile and I mentioned I was recording
and if they held ground in front I'd have something for them. First set was
great. Roger told a Pink Floyd story about the guardia (traffic police) and a
Pink Floyd experience. I also noticed the guy next to me was roling video so I
knew I wanted to talk between sets. The band really seemd to be having fun too.
They left between sets for a smoke and a drink and said they would return. I
didn't expect it and when the we gotr the five minute warning I new my only "friend"
was the video taper although he smoke hardly any English (He is Belgian) and his
wife was a bit better. They did learn I was from California but when I showed
the tracker pages of the first night on my phone they didn't understand. He has
my card because this would be a fun matrix project for someone to synch the
video with my audio. Second set starts and a few songs in Dermo and Jun find me.
During Run Like Hell the pig made its appearance actually buzzing right over me.
The fan that powered it was nice but I can hear it on the recording. As the show
I ended up giving Dermo the MSG DVD. There was a thank you waiting in my email
when I checked later on. After the show I went out with Bob from ECAccess and
had a few Guinness and Jamesons with my usual
aftershow meal. Did I mention, I like Dublin.
As I post this I have made it to London and preparing for the second part of the
tour. I made my flight despite the threat of volcanic ash.
Its like deja vue all over again as Yogi Berra once said.
Last year the Iceland volano caused havoc and I arrived an hour before Heathrow
shut down. My friend Jay from NY missed the shows
due to the flight chaos. He is flying standby the 27th so hoping for the best.
At the airport I checked in and proceeded to checkout with trepidation. How
would Dublin's version of TSA view my gear. They were very friendly which is a
change and the person doing the secondary screening asked me how the show was
when he saw my short. I told him great and dug into my bag and
gave him a copy. His response was "THANK YOU! and God bless".
I like DUblin. Flew BMI and the US airlines could stand to take some lessons. I
landed in London and was hoping to find a driver awaiting. I had sent an email
from my phone at Dublin airport to arrange it. A Moroccan man named Abi was
holding a sign with my name. Since I was wearing my Roger Waters shirt and I
told him my plans. Asked if he liked Pink Floyd and he proceeded to tell me
about growing up in Moracco smoking hash and listening to Pink Floyd. I asked if
he had a CD player in the van and next thing I know we are listening to the
first night of Dublin. I told him about the upcoming Clapton shows and he says
his wife caught the Dublin show. This is the right way to travel through London.
He asks if I am in a hurry and I say, nope. We detour to a view across the
street from the building and smokestacks used in the Animals album cover. I give
him Clapton and Winwood that I recorded in Wembley for his wife and I promised
him copies of the upcoming shows when he drives me
back to Heathrow. He says that ride is on him. I get to my flat rental and we
have internet. Its 35GBP per week but its a necessary expense.
I am now ready for the second leg of the tour. I do not plan to seed the shows
until the end of the run for safety reasons but assuming all goes as
planned, I will put them all up over two days.
