Yet another one of those Bill Ludwig interpretations
of a Floyd album. This time Bill has taken that emotional classic, The Final Cut.
Considered by most to be a Roger Waters solo effort, The Final Cut was
originally intended to be the soundtrack album of The Wall film, containing
alternate takes and leftover tracks. Roger ultimately put together a passionate
song cycle tackling current events and expressing his disapproval of the
leadership of PM Margaret Thatcher.
The album had little support from the other Floyds (Rick
Wright was completely out of the band at this point), but was released as a Pink
Floyd album nonetheless. After initial critical praise, history has frowned upon
the album after rather lackluster sales (in comparison to other Floyd albums),
and it receives mixed support from the fans. But those that 'get it' LOVE it.
So here's my take on what some have called 'rock's saddest album.' I hope you
'get it.'
