From Buffalo to Watertown, Toronto to Sayreville, Cleveland to Bethlehem, my posts of previously uncirculated shows have taken us all on a journey through my local, and not so local, history. This one tops them all (except maybe the Huey Lewis private party). A show from behind the Iron Curtain.
Jaras learned of me through participation in a Yes DVD project with another artist in Florida. With little knowledge of my reputation he entrusted me to do what it took to make this recording the best it can be. I'm very thankful to him for trusting me with his recording, to do the mastering work and to share it as his agent.
When I began this recording was almost unlistenable because of the overabundant low end. Once I EQd the tape and that was evened out it revealed the true sound of this show. Recorded in a 30x100m aluminum room, the tape is very reverberant, and the reflectivity of the room made the audience very loud. I painstakingly removed a huge amount of claps that were driving the overall volume of the show down and turned it all up with some peak limiting involved. I then reduced the volume of the hall's air conditioning using what was essentially a noise reduction process, although to a very conservative degree.

A taper's story of how it was.
Prior to the show I was lucky to get a warning from friends: be careful before the gig, Steven hates tapers. That was truth. Before the gig there was an unusual lot of security. When I got to the hall I noticed that there were a few guys with headphones. They were walking around the hall & watching for the audience - Taperkillers! So I jumped very quickly into the audience beetween a few tall guys & a big lady with very big tits. Safe enough, I thought. I turned on the recorder, connecting CA14omni. I tested the recorder for options: Mic sense High, low cut NO...we'll see what happens, I thought. I put the mics on the t-shirt. I was afraid to put them on the hat - taperkillers were everywhere. I clicked Start & put the recorder in my pocket.
7 min to the gig: On the videoscreen starts the film. The toy-boy (the image of Steven) is walking on the street, sometimes he goes to the left, sometimes to the right & sometimes straight on.
3 min to the gig: People are still coming & the toy boy is still walking, taperkillers watching & my recording goes.
15 seconds to the gig: The toy-boy has found the guitar on the street. He was watching, what is it, & next touched the strings....the expression on his face something like WOW MUSIC! Then he started to play. At the same moment Steven jumped on the stage playing together with the toy-boy from the film. And the show begins. I thought: "now I know why the taper from Lyon didn't record the full gig, he didn't know exactly when it started".
The sound was great except for the drums, so much reverb. The hall was made from aluminum, a box about 100x30-40m. I was 25 meters from the stage & very happy that I didn't come near the stage because crazy fans were making a big mess shouting, crying, pissing & dressuping.
Second song: Luminol I thought Aluminol, the drums were so bad. I took a look at the control light of the recorder: green not red, that's quite good.
Halfway through the gig: Index & Sectarian. My head got the orgasmus. It was not the end of the pleasures. The lady had put her tits on my arm. Nice & big, I thought, but started to be afraid about the recording. Tits were 10cm from the left mic. OMG, thought, please stop it, not now...after 5 minutes she did it.... an orgasm?? I took a look at her face....she was smiling at me. No baby I'm at work, I thought. In fact she did a fantastic job helping me. Killers were still walking & watching. I was undercover of her huge tits.
The end of the gig: Fans are ecstatic. Me too. I was too slow to say "thank you" the lady, she went out so quickly. Taperkillers were watching people even after the gig from the hall to the door. I didn't even turn off the recorder making drive home recording too (will be shared on Y soon, of course).
I've back home at 1 AM: It was 100 km of driving. Turned on my PC with quality music card Soundmax & 5.1 audio. Connected the recorder & listened to a few minutes of Radoiactive Toy. F++++++ I hought. Almost three hours in a standing position goes to nowhere. The sound of this recording was really bad. Turned off PC & went to bed. In bed I thought that I'm a stupid man, that girl was really nice & her tits...Heaven!!!! OMG.
Next day I didn't give up. I turned on my second PC with the Creative music card & the program mini-audio studio. I use this for very bad tapes of old recordings to make them more listenable. Started to listen. Turning down the Subwoofer made some improvement to the sound & I noticed that the space of the sound is very huge & it needs quality mastering. The biggest problems lie only with the snare (sounded really shitty because of reverb) & the AC, sometimes it worked too loud.
If I could only find someone who can do this mastering, Ithought. This might be realy nice recording.
I was looking for 9 mounths. Noone wanted to do it, but after assisting a friend from Y on another project I found HIM.....his name is....}{eywood.
If you only knew how great a job he did.
Now I can listen to this gig with big pleasure. Ieven stopped to think about the lady from this gig. The sound he found tests as a huge tits even more.
Thank you so much my Bro...Hats off.
