PREPARING THE RECORDING
This recording was made from the balcony. The Melkweg is a small venue, so I was
quite close to the band. I was standing above the soundman. Good place to be I
think. There were people talking behind me, but not directly in the mic, so
sound is pretty good. During the quieter bits people all around were talking,
but it stays distant.
The recording itself sounded already good. Not much was done. I corrected volume
levels where needed, and added some 'air' by tweaking the high frequencies a
bit. Bass was reduced just a bit. The bass drum was prominent at places, so I
corrected that to my satisfaction. Levels were boosted, but not normalized.
After the correction, tracks were split at sector boundaries. Flacs are tagged
for convenient playback on compatible systems.
ABOUT THE CONCERT
Israeli singer Aviv Geffen is very popular in his own country, but in the rest
of the world he is mostly known for his collaboration with Steve Wilson
(Porcupine Tree) in Blackfield. This however is a solo tour by Aviv promoting
some new songs he has written. Steve Wilson joined in on guitar and as a result
half of the set consists of songs by Blackfield. The audience reacted noticably
more to those songs. It was a short concert (70 minutes), with a balanced
setlist and well
worth the trip. Aviv isn't the greatest singer, but he writes nice songs and the
soundscapes of Wilsons guitar makes it great performance.
