Here's an excellent recording from Bydoszcz Poland, October 2, 1997. This is a show that, to my knowledge, circulates under such names as "Solo By the Smoke Machine" or "Misty Mood". I'm not a Porcupine Tree expert when it comes to their gigography, or ROIO recordings, although they are one of my favorite groups. So, some of you may want to chime in and fill in some details. I imagine this has been uploaded here before...
This is one of the best sounding recordings I've heard in a long time. And, the performance is stellar. My best guess is that this is a nicely crafted SBD/AUD matrix recording (SBD mixed with input from ambience mics in the audience); the clarity and the separation in the drums tells me this, although I could be completely wrong...
I also notice at around 0:38 on the first track a cymbal adjustment being made. They sound significantly brighter after that point. Again, maybe I'm just hearing things.
I received this recording recently in a trade, and while I have no definite lineage info, other than the fact that the recording has been circulating for a long time (1999), there's a substantial amount of information about the recording available on line.
