"Hand Cannot Erase Tour 2015"
This was my second Steven's gig I attended to and taped. I hoped to get much
better quality than the last time in Poznań two years before when I came across
some problems with the sound. Wytwórnia Club in Łód where the gig took place
was a private venue with a very good sound system. I bought a ticket with a seat
on the first floor balcony, to the left side of the scene. I was afraid a bit
that I wouldnĺt get a good stereo from there. I took with me my daughter and my
friend Michał. The balcony we were sitting on had only one row of seats so all
the people there were placed only next to each other. There was my firend on my
left hand and some couple to the right I asked gently to remain silent during my
recording session. They were so kind that even pretended to clap giving no sound
whatsoever My friend also restrained from talking and clapping and thanks to
them I gained something that I can call ônon chatters, non clappersö recording.
The gig as usual began untypically. I knew that Steven would invent something so
that nobody could know when exactly the concert starts. I turned on my recorder
as soon as the film appeared on the screen behind the scene. It presented some
block of flats accompanied by the sound of children playing around. The sound
grew louder and louder and gradually turned subtly into characteristic motive
known from the latest album. Finally the music rang. The sound was very good
(double stereo - pseudo quatro), I was sitting about 20 meters away from the
front speakers and about 15 meters away the rear ones hence I got a good stereo
effect between front and the rear speakers gaining the full soundscape. The only
setback was a rather poor bass that along with drums produced a bit unclear
picture of the whole rhythm section so we couldnĺt enjoy fully the play of such
an extraordinary bassist as Nick Beggs. Luckily Church Audio mics were able to
get what human ear couldnĺt. Unfortunatelly they also registered a delicate
audio feedback from one of the microphones on the stage that could be heard from
time to time. The sound engineer apparently took a nap because he didnĺt do
anything about it. This time as well as in 2013 the security guys were very busy
seeking for Androiders and other people shooting pictures until the very end of
the concert. Every now and then they were pointing at some people in the
audience and even taking away their equipment. Wilson also took part in this
activity telling that filmers make the mess for people standing behind of them.
My own impression about the music? Well, five times during the gig I cought
myself squeezing my recorder very hard and luckily I got my keyboard locked
otherwise the whole material would have been completely screwed, so please
listen and enjoy as I do.
